Athonet’s Private LTE/VoLTE in the deepest mine in the Americas

10th April 2018 – Athonet and Ambra have partnered to deliver Canada’s first underground LTE network in the Agnico Eagle’s LaRonde Mine in Abitibi, Quebec, the deepest mine in the Americas. Data and Voice core network functions run entirely on Athonet’s vEPC and vIMS which support mission critical services and are software upgradeable to 5G New Core.

LTE delivers major reliability, control and coverage improvements for mine sites with respect to existing WiFi solutions. Athonet’s product pushes intelligence to the network edge and has been designed to allow mining companies to control and manage their own LTE networks without requiring highly-skilled telecom resources. The deployment has been shortlisted for the prestigious International Critical Communications Awards 2018.
