Karim El Malki – President Athonet USA
Karim is responsible for Athonet’s product strategy, bringing more than 20 years of experience from both academia and industry. He has been selected by WIRED magazine and Nokia as one of the 17 leading global influencers based on innovation, impact, and relevance to critical global issues in areas including artificial intelligence, privacy, security, human connection, and health. He was previously University Researcher and then Lecturer in Mobile Communications at the University of Sheffield (U.K.). Karim’s work in the IP wireless space was a first input to standardisation that resulted in several standards. He subsequently joined Ericsson in Stockholm where he held senior roles in the Research, Systems and Global Services organizations. He has authored several mobile and IP standards, patents, conference talks and publications and has been an Expert Evaluator for the European Community funded projects. Karim holds a Ph.D. in Telecoms from the University of Sheffield (U.K.) and a B.Eng. (Hon.s) from Brunel University (U.K.).
Gianluca Verin – CTO, President Athonet Italy
Gianluca is responsible for Athonet’s R&D activities. He brings over 19 years of experience in mobile and fixed network design, product development, deployment and verification know-how to the company. His previous experience was at Ericsson where he was responsible for IP mobile network design, deployment and integration, including end-to-end characteristics assessment for 3G networks, quality of service studies and optical network development and deployment. Gianluca is an expert in Linux/BSD implementation as well as Internet and Telecom protocol implementation. He was awarded a medal by the President of Italian Republic for the first LTE network for emergency use in the aftermath of the Italian earthquake of 2012. He holds a M.Sc. from the University of Sunderland (UK) and a “Laurea” (Italian University Degree) in Electronic Engineering from the University of Padova (Italy).
Nanda Menon – Corporate Development
Nanda is responsible for developing Athonet’s strategic partnerships. He brings over 25 years of direct investing and investment banking experience in the telecoms, media and technology sector at leading institutions covering the Americas, Europe, Africa and Asia. Nanda began his coverage of the mobile sector in 1994 at Jardine Fleming (now JP Morgan) at the sector’s inception in Asia. From 2000, he was responsible for the global telecoms, media and technology investment portfolios at Nomura International plc and Satellite Asset Management based out of London and New York. He subsequently joined Investec Bank plc as a Director in the investment banking team in London before joining Athonet. Nanda qualified as an ACA (England and Wales) at Arthur Andersen in London and holds a M.Eng in Mechanical Engineering from Kings College London.
Stefano Cocco – Sales
Stefano is responsible for Athonet’s global sales activities. He brings over 25 years of experience in the ICT market having held senior roles in sales, marketing and operations in the mobile, enterprise and fixed telecoms markets. His previous experience was at Nokia and Siemens covering regional sales responsibilities. He holds a “Laurea” (Italian University Degree) in Electronic Engineering from the Politecnico of Milan (Italy).
Massimiliano Gianesin – Operations & Professional Services
Massimiliano is responsible for Athonet’s network deployment and services. He brings more than 18 years of experience in telecommunications covering product development, services, network rollout and project management. He previously worked for network integrator Sielte and Siemens where he was responsible for the network rollout of Tier 1 mobile operators. He holds a “Laurea” (Italian University Degree) in Electronic Engineering from the University of Padova (Italy).
